Then Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.’
Indeed, Simon Peter, where shall the thirsty go but to the fountain? Christian do you think there is another fount? Are your hands cupped at some dirty brook? The waters may pool in your hands but in your stomach they will make ye even more thirsty. Yes, drawn from those dirty and stench filled waters they will only push you into more wandering.
The doubt will tempt us to hope there is another brook but Jesus. We may have to feel as if Christ is not close to know that we can live no other way. For then we may pray, “Lord, do not hide your face from me.” And more than this we will mean it! For the hidden Savior is hell itself. Christian, remember that what you seek is only found in Christ. You seek eternity and more than this, you were made for it. Yet, only One has the words to grant, “Come and sit in my splendor.”
