He welcomes

Father, can you bear our doubt?
Can you take our unsureness?
Father, can you bear our doubt?

We know we shouldn’t.
We feel there is a right and proper way to come to your presence. Or so we are told.
But stripped and vulnerable we don’t have the energy to come ‘right’. Perhaps we never do, but through your grace alone.

Perhaps you see us not because we come humbled and full of respect, but because of your Son. In this season, we would like to come ‘right’. We would like to say we don’t need the boy lying in Mary’s arms.

We would like to say we can approach without such bloodshed. But we fool ourselves.
We need every last drop.

We come unsure, doubtful and broken.

And you say, “I’m glad you have come”.
