Reflecting on Nehemiah 9:16
We look to Israel and we separate ourselves.
We condemn their faults, their forgetfulness and wondering. But then we remember. We are Israel.
We wander, sin and forget. We make others our Gods. We may not forge a Calf, but we still manage to bow to things of this world.
We place ambitions, goals, and hopes in your place. We trust in people and in things; yes, we worship the created not the creator. But you, Oh Lord, you are the same forever and ever. You are slow to anger, abounding in love and in your patience, you call us home.
You are a caller, and we are the runners. You are the committed and we are the idolators. In Your mercy, you pursue us.
May your calling always bring us home and may we never forget your voice.
